The research activity has concerned the theoretical - numerical - experimental study on the dynamics of the critical conditions that can involve engulfing and/or turnover of the operative machine- tractor system. Activity has begun with the analysis and the characterization of the accidents connected to turnover and engulfing conditions for operative machines aimed to determine the protection systems. Therefore an investigation has been performed to evaluate the typologies and the mechanical characteristics of the operative machines considered, that are available on the market, and on the basis of the detected data, different operative conditions has been examined, seeking the limits conditions for it. This has been focused above all for the operative machines: pruning machines, balers machines and self propelled hydrodynamic irrigating machines. On such machines experimental tests has been performed with the purpose to determine the limit conditions for the stability to the turnover so that to obtain, on the base of geometric and inertial parameters, stability indexes useful for the definition of the turnover risk for these machines. Then a scheme of the obtained data results has been performed with the purpose to determine a model to evaluate the risk and that it can be possible to apply to similar typologies of operative machines. Subsequently, by mean computational codes CAD/CAE PRO/E and Ansys, numerical simulations of the different examined conditions has been performed. In such way it has been possible to also determine other possible safety limits conditions.
