The talk turns attention to the issue of identity of the cultural landscape, particularly in urban context, in the age of globalization telling of a project where I participated for the Shanghai Expo in 2010. The Expo title was “better city-better life”: a way to tell that the city well “designed” is able to guarantee a better quality of human life. The project “Italy of the Cities” is an “architectural Cinema”, a great multimedia machine that tells in pictures and sounds, in less than 200 square meters, the Italian city in its chronological but also morphological articulation. The chronological narration is interrupted in the end, the rhythm increases and images from every age are convened simultaneously in the final sequence by saying, in essence, that our whole tradition of “city builders” falls in the present and it can be reworked to buy new meanings for the future.
