High mol. wt., optically active poly[(S)-β-aminobutyric acid] (I) [30104-58-6] had a β-assocd. conformation, which was enhanced by the addn. of traces of water, in hexafluoroisopropanol (II). CD spectra indicated that I films cast from II or hexafluoroacetone also had a β-structure. I assumed a disordered structure in MeSO3H. [on SciFinder(R)]
