What value for goodness? A reflection on voluntary labour at pop music festivals and the circuit of value creation

This article is an attempt to explore the meaning of value by reflecting on value logics that are organised around the notion of ethical value. Ethical value has been formulated as a form of value that derives from the creation of communities and relationships among individuals (Arvidsson, 2009; 2010) and that responds to logic of production based on sharing values and beliefs. In recent times, the traditional view that judge market value as the only value system has been put gradually into question (Harvie, 2010; Reinecke, 2010) and new emerging forms of value foundation has been placed on the forefront. Alternative principles of valuation that rest upon ethical dimensions have been explored as modes that privilege the social relationships among people (Reinecke, 2010).
