The Ensure Project has been addressed to provide an integrated framework for a “comprehensive” assessment of vulnerability in order to support strategies capable of reducing vulnerability in face of natural and na-tech events and, in the meanwhile, of enhancing resilience. According to this aim, the research work developed by the Unina team within the second workpackage of the Ensure Project has been focused on the following issues: - the peculiarity of na-tech events, which drive us to shift the focus of risk assessment and management from individual hazards toward complex hazardous events; - the Resilience concept and the relationships between vulnerability and resilience, in order to highlight common aspects and peculiarities for a better understanding of their roles in achieving risk reduction goals. The main result of the research work can be identified in the setting up of a conceptual model of Resilience, based on the integration of different disciplinary perspectives, which has represented one of the starting point for the subsequent development of the integrated framework allowing us to support strategies for reducing vulnerability and enhancing resilience in face of natural and na-tech events.
