Abstract

The economic approach considers individual committing a crime if the expected return from illegal activity is greater than the performance of legal work activity (Becker 1968). The policies suggestion of the traditional theory points to discourage deviant behaviour identifying trough the optimal law enforcement the mechanisms that reduce benefits and / or, equivalently, increase the costs related to criminal activities . In other words this intuition sustain to increase penalties for uniformly discouraging criminal actions and proceed with the repression of the actions of the “key players”, i.e. the actions that aim to "eliminate" the leaders, so as to weaken networks through which criminal organisations are rooted in the territories, generating submission (Armengol and Zenou, p. 2, 2009).
