The Somma-Vesuvius volcanic complex is one of the most studied volcanoes in the world. Numerous papers in the last thirty years provide new insights into its volcanological history. Here we propose a review of the recent volcanological literature on this subject with special reference to the events that have impacted the area north of the volcano.
