This essay aims at analyzing Sarah Kane's plays by focusing on the relevance eros is given in them, the same that gives the author's output its complex though violent aspect. The so called "aesthetics of the ugly" is taken into special account, from the ancient Greek theories to the most recent studies on the topic. This helps to get Kane's theatre free from too much biased criticism which might undermine their overall value.
