The boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator on the variable Morrey spaces defined over a bounded open set in R^n is proved, under the assumption of the local Holder continuity of the exponent, completing the result obtained by L. Diening on the variable exponent Lebesgue spaces.
