Architecture as Language of Peace and Instrument of Mitigation of the Environmental Risk

Focus of the lecture: Architecture as language of peace and instrument of mitigation of the global environmental risk. Main sub-themes: Educational philosophies and strategies. Other sub-themes involved: methodologies and approaches, sustainable educational development, sustainable planning, urban design and environmental design, sustainable architecture, research for evolving sustainable humane habitat.The first part of the lecture develops the preliminary considerations about the subjects:A living planet - Global environmental risk– The sick planet – A global awareness - The forces at work - The state of “architecture” today. The second part of the lecture develops the main issue: how the concept and practice of architecture can be changed to make it a language of peace and an instrument to mitigate global environmental risk. The actions proposed are: - Enhancing the meaning of architecture – Enhancing the concept of landscape – Enhancing the concept of environmental identity – Reaffirming the cosmological value of architecture – Promoting intercultural encounters in architectonic and environmental planning – Enabling women's contribution to architectonic and environmental planning.
