A total of 520 publications are listed in this literature database on sensor monitoring of machining (SMM). Publications are classified using 15 SMM related subject groups and 6 reference types. The time frame of the database goes from 1960 to 2005. Even though the activities of the SMM Working Group have now come to a successful end, the literature database wil be regularly updated as long as the research community remains active in this area of research and applications. Each reference is classified according to type (J - Journal Paper; C - Conference Paper; R - Research Report; T - Thesis; B - Book; A - Artice; P - Patent) and subject (1. SMM in milling; 2. SMM in turning; 3. SMM in drilling; 4. SMM in grinding; 5. SMM in metal cutting (general); 6. Catastrophic tool failure; 7. Progressive tool wear; 8. Tool chipping/failure; 9.
