The development of an agent-based multiple supplier tool management system for optimum tool inventory sizing and control founded on reliable tool delivery forecasting is presented. The framework of a negotiation-based multi-agent system for tool management was illustrated for the case of a turbine blade producer (customer) requiring dressing jobs on worn out CBN grinding wheels from different tool manufacturers (suppliers) in a supply network. A case application of dressing job order allocation was presented to illustrate the multi-agent tool management system functioning.
