A number of polyether toxins have been isolated and characterized in the course of our studies on mussels from Northern Adriatic sea. Some of them represent new additions to the DSP-class of biotoxins and seem to be peculiar of Adriatic sea. In addition, we have also isolated new cytotoxins, whose structure was elucidated by extensive use of 1D and 2D NMR techniques. A liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method for direct detection of yessotoxins was also proposed
