This paper investigates the references to oral narration in Aratus’ Phaenomena, which are signalled by the words λόγος, φημί and φάτις and concern the Maiden, the Goat and Kids, the Horse, and Orion and the Scorpion. Aratus takes care to distance himself from the mythical narratives he reports and ultimately emphasizes that such narratives (some of which, in their specific forms, may well have been created by him) are not on a par with the results of astronomical observation.
