In this chapter the authors critically reconstruct the historical, cultural and mythological elements of Neapolitan femminielli, gender-variant figures, part of Neapolitan culture, and in particular to its underprivileged classes. The text ends with a look at the contemporaneity, discussing how the great transformations of the last few decades have threatened the very existence of the femminielli.
