The Dawn of Supranational Justice: Revisiting the First Two Rulings of the European Court of Justice, 70 Years On

The lecture revisited the first two rulings of the European Court of Justice, seventy years after their delivery, presenting them as a crucial moment in the emergence of supranational justice in Europe. The intervention examined the forgotten procedural backgrounds, actors, and institutional dynamics behind the foundational case law of the Court, in line with the approach of the REILS project, Rediscovering European Integration Through Legal Storytelling. It highlighted how the earliest rulings of the Court contributed to shaping the judicial architecture of European integration and to defining the role of the Court in the Community legal order
