L'affermazione delle scienze ento-antropologiche in Ucraina. I presupposti e le attività della Società Scientifica Ševčenko

The essay seeks to portray the role played by the Shevchenko Scientific Society in the development of the Ukrainian ethnography with a special focus on scholarly research and the extensive publishing activity carried out by its members. Furthermore, it will examine the task of the Ethnographic Commission, an institution created to outline the steps of scientific advances and chart the way forward for the then emerging practice of ethnographic studies. The interplay between specialised publishing and the role of a supervising commission allowed for the Ukrainian culture to cross national borders and distinguish itself internationally for its exclusive and unique elements.
