Osservazioni storico-topografiche sugli insediamenti fortificati di Sabucina e Capodarso (Sicilia centrale). Nuovi dati da telerilevamento remoto e di prossimità

Paper’s aim is to demonstrate how the integrated use of remote and proximal sensing improves the reconstruction of ancient fortified uplands settlements’ topography. For this purpose, the case study is the territory of the Southern Imera River Valley (Cen- tral Sicily), where a sector of the frontier-land between Sikania and Sikelia is located. The field surveys carried out were integrated with the synoptic analysis of remotely (aerial photographs, DTM, satellite images) and proximally sensed data, with the systematic coverage by drone footage of two multi-phase sites, Sabucina (Caltanissetta) and Capodarso (Enna), where protohistoric fortified settlements were both abandoned in successive stages during the first half of the 1st millennium BC and subsequently no longer urbanised.
