Storie di vita e repertori linguistici di immigrati meridionali a Torino: qualche riflessione

This paper aims at investigating the linguistic biographies of some southern immigrants settled in Turin in a qualitative sociolinguistic approach. It focuses on the attitudes of speakers belonging to first and intermediate generations and their linguistic biographies. The paper has two main aims: on one hand, it describes the attitudes and the linguistic biographies of two groups of migrants, different per generation; on the other, it compares the two generations in order to underline similarities and different between the two groups of speakers. The results firstly shed light on linguistic biographies and attitudes of southern migrants to Turin, underlying the way they acquired Italian. They also provided evidence that the two generations differ both in attitudes and feeling of belonging to their region of origin. In doing so, the paper contributes to a better understanding of so-called intermediate generation, which is a category that sociolinguists borrowed from anthropologists and sociologists.
