The paper provides a reflection about the outcomes of the recent technical policy for energy renovation in Italy, considering both the European objectives of decarbonization, circularity and industrialization of the sector and the size of the demand for intervention. Based on a comparison of the two main models of intervention on the public and private building stock, respectively relying on the Minimum Environmental Criteria and the Superbonus, the study focuses on the effectiveness and environmental limits of measures for private buildings, which constitute the majority share of the entire Italian building stock. Within this framework, the work identifies the Energiesprong model as a possible way to improve the quality of retrofitting interventions, not only from the energy point of view, and broaden their scope.
