Abstract

Nearly thirteen million people continue to inhabit the interior areas. They resist. Between isolation and depopulation, lack of basic public services such as schools, transport and healthcare which adds to the atavistic lack of work. They resist conditions of blatant social inequality with respect to urbanized areas. The historic centers of the municipalities of the inland areas still retain − in their uniqueness − an undisputed environmental and historical testimonial value. This paper aims to retrace the policies for the enhancement of internal areas with a particular eye to the preservation and enhancement of minor historic centers, necessary to pass on to future generations a historical-identity heritage that we have inherited and which represents a non-negotiable cultural value in its uniqueness. In fact, it is important to start a concrete recognition of these fabrics in the light of the opportunities that can be glimpsed in the construction field, in the field of digitization and in a desirable improvement of personal services. These opportunities also represent the necessary support base for all those side actions (artistic performances, experiential tours, etc.) which are generally erroneously considered structuring for a true revitalization of historic centers smaller than the internal areas.
