CBDCs are hotly debated from a monetary policy and financial stability perspective. For these reasons, most central banks are examining ways in which to promote the introduction of CBDCs. In the Eurozone, the European commission and the European central bank are continuing their efforts to ensure a solid and dynamic digital financial sector and a more integrated and resilient payments system. By carrying out a detailed analysis of these design features, the purpose of this contribution is to address the financial, legal and technical complexities of a digital euro in order to highlight its risks and advantages.
