Abstract

We propose “venustas” as something we aim at. The extreme synthesis of design and planning efforts. Aspiration of movements. Reading the slow mutations of parts of cities in their moving towards a completed form, that probably will never crystallize, means likely to build tools able to stimulate a more conscious design of it. We propose therefore the reading of a case study in the Neapolitan area in which productive activities, by reorganizing themselves, active mutations in the physical form of the city, drawing on the genetic code of it and fulfilling the periodic revival of a classical, strictly tie to the contest. Silent mutations, that seem pointing to a classical order, make the theme and key word “venustas” legitimated and topical and indeed they rediscover the interest about it, at the beginning of the 21st century, and especially in Europe, when unexpectedly the market precisely is becoming the engine and democratic spaces are the scene
