We measured the photoacoustic absorption spectrum of rat tissues (skin, heart) and bovine tissues (liver, kidney, muscle) in the range 250-700 nm. The photoacoustic measurements are not significantly affected by scattering and provide directly the absorption spectrum of tissue. The measured values of the absorption coefficient of tissues are in agreement with the literature data from optical measurements, which however equire the adoption of suitable models of light propagation in tissues.

Abstract

We measured the photoacoustic absorption spectrum of rat tissues (skin, heart) and bovine tissues (liver, kidney, muscle) in the range 250-700 nm. The photoacoustic measurements are not significantly affected by scattering and provide directly the absorption spectrum of tissue. The measured values of the absorption coefficient of tissues are in agreement with the literature data from optical measurements, which however equire the adoption of suitable models of light propagation in tissues.
