The essay presents an overview of the interpretations offered in scientific literature about causes and effects of non-EC immigrants' integration into the Italian labour market. These interpretations are based on local and partial surveys, while the official data are scarcely used, because of their inadequacy and availability. To avoid these limitations, the essay uses the aggregate data of Labour Ministry integrated by local surveys. A scheme is proposed to gather all the information available on the immigration phenomenon. -from English summary
