Among the results, the one considered particularly effective is identifiable in the visualizations that represent the changes of the city over time: if proposed through an interactive and consultable image, they can be presented as freeze time intervals, almost as construction phases testifying the urban developments and transformations. Their traces are identifiable, in the digital space, both on a large and small scale, to such an extent that a fragment of the city is enough to relocate the developmental and perceptive dynamics and, vice versa, the entire urban texture is able to find a powerful synthesis in its fragment.

Abstract

In the context of the research work in progress concerning the city of Naples, the paper aims to offer an example of the potential of the survey and representation fields to critically appropriate and manage the role of architecture and urban space as a privileged memory device in the vision and recognition processes of the city’s image. The analysis method that combines cartographic data, images, historical sources and new representations in a spatial geo-referencing tool that places space at the center of morphological and evolutionary analysis is becoming increasingly widespread. Its main objective is to recognize the configurative distribution of urban variables of interest both for the disciplinary sector of Drawing and for the different fields involved in research.
