The paper aims at offering a critical view of some recent EU regulatory initiatives in the field of crypto-assets and an evaluation of their impact particularly in the Italian legal system. The essay focuses on the phenomenon of ‘tokenization’ and the relationship between financial tokens and some key-sectors of securities regulation. The finding has some implications for the issues of digitization of finance and investor protection in the perspective of a safe passage to democratization and further integration of the EU capital markets.
