We propose a new method for the determination of the radii of pulsating variables based on the same physical assumptions as those of the Baade-Wesselink method (except for the possibility of a weaker constraint on the functional relation between the surface brightness and the colour index) which should allow the determination of the radius with a better precision. Preliminary results for eleven cepheids seem to give a periodradius relation which is in good agreement with that obtained for cepheids in open clusters (Evans, 1976) and for the center of the instability strip (Cogan, 1978).
