Abstract

The built environment is the connective texture of our communities. This hypothesis underlines the Italy-Pakistan scientific cooperation, launched in 2013 between the Federico II University of Naples and the COMSATS University of Islamabad. In fragile contexts that irreparably risk losing their beauty, technological innovation redesigns the development coordinates, restoring the role of active custodians of identities to local actors. The research perspective is part of the technological design sector, outlining the community empowerment impacts in rehabilitation, adaptive reuse and maintenance processes for the built environment. Through best practices analysis and a pilot case experimentation, the book explores the contribution that cultural and creative industries can bring to settlement systems prosperity, rebalancing relationships between material culture, productive vocation, and adaptivity of places.
