A social housing district upgraded to an nZEB settlement: a real case study in the southern Italy coastline

The energy shift of existing districts towards nearly zero energy solutions is crucial aiming at reducing human impact on the environment. For this scope, an existing district ubicated in the north part of the large metropolitan area (i.e., the province) of Naples, Southern Italy, Mediterranean coastline, and representative of the Italian social housing building stock from 70s-80s, is investigated. On-site measurements are performed on 29 buildings and 5 reference buildings are individuated. According to the present legislation in the matter of nZEB target for deep refurbishment and new constructions (mainly when buildings are owned by the public hand, as in this case) the fulfillment of nearly or, even better, net zero-energy targets is a scope. More in general, the results outline the potentials of the energy shift of districts of buildings towards the nZEB standard.
