La terminologia nella pratica assicurativa

From the 18th century onwards, France has been distinguished by a fruitful specialist lexicographic production, which demonstrates a particular interest in defining the lexicon of maritime commerce such as the Dictionnaire universel du commerce by Jacques Savary des Bruslons in 1723, the Encyclopédie méthodique by Charles-Joseph Panckoucke in 1783 and Le langage des marins by Gabriel de La Landelle in 1859. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, interest in lexicographic publications on commerce also flourished in Italy; there is no lack of written evidence in both of these linguistic codes, which confirm the link between the development of maritime commerce and the birth of the idea of insurance. Several headwords present in the main French dictionaries are examined, which testify how insurance practice has made use of terms borrowed from the maritime one.
