The restoration project of Villa Bruno in S. Giorgio a Cremano complies to The City Council issues related to the functions attributed to the architectural complex. The idea of restoring the Villa to a wider public use determined complex design choices, in which a coordinated action taken by designers and project manager fielded all the most rigorous principles of restoration. In particular, the complexity of the multi-layered building required the subdivision by parts in order to find solutions that simultaneously satisfied the proposed uses, respecting the material consistency, within a rigorous regulatory framework in accordance with the unity of the Villa in relation to its architectural and environmental values. For one of the units in which the design problem was divided – the ruins of the foundry – a suggestive space was imagined starting from the ruin status in which it was, to conclude it only ideally by preserving only the perimeter walls with wide openings without fixtures and without the roof. This entailed its safety and the construction of metal structures to replace the previous structural scheme of the roofs to connect the tuff walls transversely. Within the change of some municipal council, a new administration has become the interpreter of new (popular?) instances and used the site as an image of change, deciding that a more functional use needed a physical coverage of that space.
