Tin is rarely used as an alloying element in aluminum alloys. However, due to the use of increasing quantities of recycled waste, it has been found that, at times, tin contamination can occur in the alloys. Its presence can cause serious problems of processability of the laminates. It is known that aluminum laminates are often subjected to various surface treatments before installation, including chemical degreasing processes in alkaline or acid environments that eliminate the residues of the lubricant-coolant used in cold lamination process. In the present work, the electrochemical behaviour of the AA8006 alloy was studied in the presence of small quantities of Sn (20, 50, and 100 p.p.m.), following chemical cleaning and degreasing treatments. The experimental results have shown that, after recrystallization, a segregation effect of the element is determined towards the surface of the material which involves a significant variation of its electrochemical response.
