The battery storage system is one of the most important components in an electric drive used for electric traction and propulsion. During its performance, the battery can be exposed to critical environment conditions or can work in overload, with a decrease of battery lifetime. The safeguard of the storage system needs an accurate thermal model, able to simulate all the battery conditions and the temperature variation during the transient. In the paper it is proposed a methodology which merges experimental test and heuristic optimization, able to characterize the thermal battery behavior during the transient;
