COVID-19 and the African anomaly: success in containing its spread or failure to detect it?

Nordling L. (Science 369, 6505) highlights that in Africa the gap between antibody data and official tool of deaths for Covid demonstrates that the pandemic spreaded without many victims. The letter starts from the author's observations on the spread of the pandemic in Africa to deepen some aspects. We underline the need for official data on mortality by age groups and reduce the importance attributed to the demographic factor which alone cannot justify the reduced spread of the pandemic
