Cupole salernitane: la diffusione del modello costruttivo su tamburo ottagonale

The four Salerno’s churches of Monte dei Morti, San Salvatore de Fondaco, Sant'Anna al Porto and San Filippo Neri are a system of sacred buildings, with a Renaissance structure, united by several shared architectural features. The most relevant affinity is the setting of the dome on an octagonal drum which, despite the consecutive renovations – especially the Baroque ones – is still clearly intelligible in the original geometry. The paper explores the four case studies in a wider context analyzing their constructive invariants, current instability flaws and decay, providing a comparative analysis of the historical construction site of the Renaissance dome structures, in order to set up a well-founded restoration project.
