Abstract

The EU’s communication policies have been examined in a variety of scientific articles, which have highlighted how they traditionally suffer from shortcomings that endanger the political status of the Union. A basic principle of the democratic theory lies exactly in the thoughtfulness of electoral choices, founded on a conscious thought of political issues; an informed thought that cannot prescind from access to political information. However, social ties also play an important role in shaping public opinion in the political sphere: A purely mediological attempt to explain public opinion is set to fail. Yet communication never seems to have been central to the EU’s interests and policies. Nowadays, it seems extremely important, even for the very survival of the Union, to implement new strategies that have a strong impact on political and institutional communication
