RIFLESSIONI SU ALCUNE PRATICHE CORRETTIVE NEL I LIBRO DE RHETORICA DI FILODEMO (PHERC. 1427)

Though its formal and quite elegant handwriting, PHerc. 1427 (the midollo of Philodemus’ De rhetorica Book I) presents a large number of corrections. The handwriting, the typology of these interventions and the different ways of correcting the text led me to distinguish between corrections made by the main scribe and corrections made by a revisor of the text (or maybe two revisors). Among the corrections made by the main scribe I was able to detect many corrections in scribendo and complex interventions, which reveal the intention of improving the text and its style and cannot be ascribed to the wish or the consciousness of the scribe. In this paper I will present new readings and a detailed analysis of each correction, which can be particularly interesting for the reconstruction of the history of the text.
