The aim of the paper is to propose a new approach to preference mapping by exploiting quantile regression. The proposal consists into a multi-steps procedure combining principal component analysis, least squares and quantile regression. Results of the procedure on a case study show how the classical preference map can be enriched by information on the variability along the direction of the most preferred products. Such an additional information is obtained by the use of quantile regression.

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to propose a new approach to preference mapping by exploiting quantile regression. The proposal consists into a multi-steps procedure combining principal component analysis, least squares and quantile regression. Results of the procedure on a case study show how the classical preference map can be enriched by information on the variability along the direction of the most preferred products. Such an additional information is obtained by the use of quantile regression.
