Abstract

Workshop di progettazione Expo dopo Expo Scuole di Architettura italiane per Milano Rather than entrusting two distinct projects to two distinct subjects, we have tried to structure a lab aimed at experimenting with the project as a research tool and product. Creatively combining the different interpretations of the project, we tried to check how the same “subject” (a group of PhD students) could elaborate two distinct but “comparable” proposals and how can we try to make the result (in this case twofold) of the experiment “traceable” and thus “falsifiable”. In “Cantierare la rovina”, the legacy of Expo allows an immediate reuse of the northern area that connects to the outside by a linear park. The temporary functions coexist with the actual construction of the South edge where there is a mile long modular skeleton, which can grow to accommodate different functions. The space between the two edges, linked to future uses, remains white. In “Urbs in silva”, the possibility of reviving, although artificially, the ancient forest of Merlata represents the design concept. The forest, almost like a natural ruin, breaks the fence and connect the site with the outside. Adherence to the labor-oriented proposal pushes for a type-morphological differentiation of the architectures.
