In the contemporary socio-cultural scenario where migration and other transnational processes, together with technological development continuously require (re)accommodation and negotiation to new identities and language(s), translation has possibly become one of the essential metaphors of our globalized world. In this perspective, translation and migration can be compared, since they both entail dislocating languages, cultures – thus identities – which have to be conveyed, or better ‘transported’ from the source into the target place/language. Every form of translation must help us to look beyond our own socio-cultural horizon, and, by displaying other people’s diversity, can lead us to acknowledge the legitimacy of ‘alterity’, a message which is intrinsically embedded in every act of translation.

Abstract
In the contemporary socio-cultural scenario where migration and other transnational processes, together with technological development continuously require (re)accommodation and negotiation to new identities and language(s), translation has possibly become one of the essential metaphors of our globalized world. In this perspective, translation and migration can be compared, since they both entail dislocating languages, cultures – thus identities – which have to be conveyed, or better ‘transported’ from the source into the target place/language. Every form of translation must help us to look beyond our own socio-cultural horizon, and, by displaying other people’s diversity, can lead us to acknowledge the legitimacy of ‘alterity’, a message which is intrinsically embedded in every act of translation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
