The essay is an interpretation about Himerius’ 37th oration, of which we have received three brief excerpta from Neapolitan codes. The analysis will provide comments on the use, by Himerius, of rhetorical standards of epithalamium and make assumptions about the context, observing how the use of rhetorical topoi is interwoven with other levels of reading. In particular the cities of Rome and Constantinople appear joined in a new harmony, according to the political propaganda in the fourth century. The epithalamic speech results besides in an exaltation of Eros-Aphrodite.

Abstract
The essay is an interpretation about Himerius’ 37th oration, of which we have received three brief excerpta from Neapolitan codes. The analysis will provide comments on the use, by Himerius, of rhetorical standards of epithalamium and make assumptions about the context, observing how the use of rhetorical topoi is interwoven with other levels of reading. In particular the cities of Rome and Constantinople appear joined in a new harmony, according to the political propaganda in the fourth century. The epithalamic speech results besides in an exaltation of Eros-Aphrodite.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
