Le Musée de Naples et la collection secréte Alinari

During his long “Journey to the East”, on Friday 6 October 1911, Jeanneret arrived in Naples, after a three long days journey from Greece. On 6, 7, and 8 October he visits the city; on 9 October he reaches Pompei for the first time, and the day after he returns to Naples, where he spends the whole day visiting the National Museum. The tour of the National Museum impassions him, he makes some quick drawings, he purchases some postcards and he buys many pictures by Alinari. The article is focused on the discovery of this precious material, made in the archive of the Le Corbusier Foundation, and it suggests some possible interpretations of its importance in the educational path and critical sense of Jeanneret. The interest in the discovery of the pictures by Alinari, selected and bought by Jeanneret, consists not only in their possibility to show the attention of Jeanneret to the precious collections displayed in the National Museum in Naples, but it also and above all consists in their possibility to open to many new analysis and reflections on the wellknown link between Le Corbusier and Pompei.
