Abstract

The paper proposes the results of the research group activity of DiARC – Department of Architecture of University of Naples Federico II for the “Metropolis Project - Methodologies and Technologies integrated and sustainable for adaptation and safety of urban systems” (PONREC 2007/2013), under the High-Tech District for Sustainable Building of Campania Region “STRESS Scarl”, aimed at the development of innovative strategies and solutions for a resilient urban system to the impacts of climate change. Specific attention was paid to the study of the residential housing stock in the city of Naples built in reinforced concrete from the early '900 to date. Starting from the study of the evolution of building systems envelope/structure and of the analysis of the main technical and type-morphological characteristics combined with the building performances, has been identified, through a core set of indicators, the vulnerability degree of residential buildings in terms of the ability to counter the effects caused by climate change, such as heat waves and urban heat island. The contribution proposes innovative strategies for building technological retrofitting, for adaptation and mitigation of impacts through technological solutions aimed to the rational use of resources, wellness and indoor comfort of the inhabitants, to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
