The biological effects and the clinical indications of different lasers in the field of dermatology are reviewed. Special attention has been reserved to affections for which the effectiveness of this kind of treatment has not had unequivocal scientific evidence such as biostimulation of wound healing or treatment of scars and wrinkles. Future trends of lasers in dermatology are emphasized such as their use as light sources for phototherapy and photochemotherapy of hyperproliferative or neoplastic conditions of the skin, and for diagnosis of photodermatoses.
