The Simulation Platform for Non Destructive Evaluation of Structures and Materials (SIMPOSIM) project is an EC-FP7 project having as challenging objective the realization of an integrated software platform for simulating the most demanding NDE applications. Emphasis is on flaw detection (FD) and material characterization (MC). In this framework, the authors have contributed with a numerical code, the CARIDDI_ECT, that is capable to model the interaction of low frequency magneto-quasi-static fields with: (i) defects in conducting and possibly magnetic materials, as in the case of Eddy Current Testing, and (ii) steel components where magnetic hysteresis and electrical conductivity characterize the electromagnetic behaviour of the material. The numerical models for FD and MC are based on two coupled integral equations in terms of the unknown eddy current density J and magnetization M, see [1, 2]. Main integral operators have also been sparsificated to solve large scale problems even on CPU/GPU parallel computers [2, 3]. In the full work we will present the validation of these numerical tools w.r.t. two applications cases from the SIMPOSIUM project. The first one (Slab inspection for corner crack) is of interest for steel industry. The second one (“Rotating probe ET of metallic bore holes”) is of interest for aeronautical industry. We will also present results related to the numerical modelling of NDT of anisotropic materials [4]. The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Community’s Seventh Framework Program (FP7/2007-2013) under Grant Agreement No. 285549: SIMPOSIUM project. 1. C. Abstract
