In this paper, the influence of the tool rotation has been investigated, in terms of forces produced in the sheet-punch contact and surface finishing, for an AA 7075T0 sheet forming. The program of the experimental tests has foreseen the achievement of frustums of pyramid, carried out on a CNC machine, setting in rotation the tool, a punch with hemispherical head of 10 mm in diameter, with different speeds (0, 200, 600 rpm) and both directions of rotation. The results analysis has pointed out what follows: • there is a decrease in terms of vertical and horizontal force peaks setting in rotation the punch, for both directions; • the trend of horizontal forces presents a meaningful variation, owing to the component of friction force dependent on the direction of rotation; • there is not heat generation, increasing the speed of rotation; • a notable influence of the rotation on the surface finishing has been found: the roughness decreases setting the tool in rotation; the same roughness doesn’t change varying the speed and the direction of rotation.
