Abstract

Soil moisture content has a great importance in different environmental and land activities. The new generation of high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite systems play a critical role in the damage assessment and post-disaster monitoring. Moreover polarimetric data are very useful in soil moisture retrieval because they allow direct parameterisation of scattering problem. In the framework of a PhD course in Aerospace Engineering, are used some COSMO-SkyMed polarimetric data (provided by courtesy of the Italian Space Agency) acquired in the area of Naples to demonstrate the ability of Synthetic Aperture Radar satellites for predicting and monitoring landslides events.
