Aluminium Foam Sandwich (AFS) panels are becoming more and more attractive in transportation engineering applications thanks to their excellent combination of properties arising from the metallic nature of the matrix and porosity behaviour of the foam core. In this work, some numerical and experimental inves- tigations of acoustic characteristics of AFS panels are performed. Two types of specimens, made of the same material but with dierent thickness and percentage of foam density are investigated. Experimental tests were performed by means of an intensity technique in order to estimate the radiated acoustic power. The results are then compared with numerical ones which are calculated by means of Finite Element Method through the discretised Rayleigh integral for flat radiators.

Abstract
