In this paper the Authors investigate a suitable procedure for the traditional machining of particulate MMC, in order to make round specimens for low cycle fatigue tests. Standards actually in use fo unrenforced matals (ASTM, BSI, etc.) do not provide information about machining round specimen for composite materials. An experimental investigation was conducted for a Ti6Al4V/TiCp in order to estimate the cutting parameters for turning (depth of cut, cutting speed and feed) that minimise material damage and residual strain due to machining, that could compromise the fatigue tests data.
